The Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) is a defined benefit pension plan. This pension plan yields a secure income that is payable for life after retirement. The pension amount is pre–determined by a formula based on age, pensionable salary, and pensionable service. Enrolled employees and the employer both contribute to LAPP. Enrollment in the pension is mandatory for regular positions of >30 hrs/week, voluntary for temporary positions >6 months in duration and >30 hrs/week, and voluntary for regular positions between 14-29 hrs/week. Once enrolled into the LAPP, members must remain in the pension plan until they terminate their employment, retire, or transfer to an ineligible position. LAPP offers regular sessions to help orient members to their pension benefits.
